Chumey Valley
Overview
Chumey Valley lies at an altitude of 2800 meters above sea level. It is the first valley located 32km before reaching Jakar from western Bhutan. Some households are scattered and some are clustered. Now with the development and the global warming, people mainly depend on agriculture for income and Women of the valley are expert in weaving Yathra (deep coloured wool textile). One could still see the women at work. People also grow wheat, barley, potatoes and buckwheat. Chumey Valley is also known for its famous wool weaving called “Yathra”, a unique textile in Bhutan. The sacred temples or monasteries found there are Chorten Nyingpo lhakhang, Buli Lhakhang, Choedrak Goempa, Tharpaling Gompa,
