Bumthang is the center most districts of Bhutan and it lies in the altitude of 2,600-4,500m above sea level. This beautiful valley is the religious heartland of the nation and home to some of its oldest Buddhist temples and monasteries and blessed by many great saints. In the 7th century King Songtshen Gyempo built Jampay Lhakhang and introduced Buddhism and blessed the place. In the 8th century Guru Rimpoche was invited to Bumthang by the local king Sindu Raga to subdue the evil spirits and spread the Buddhism. There are as many as 116 historical monuments and temples in Bumthang alone.
